The Philippines is a big basketball country. They may excel in a number of different sports, like football, rugby, golf, taekwondo, and boxing (where Senator Manny Pacquiao was once a demigod). But with all these sports that some Filipinos enjoy, it is an undeniable fact that a huge number of our population would rank basketball as their favorite sport. Thanks to legends like Sonny Jaworski, Bogs Adornado, Mon Fernandez, Alvin Patrimonio, and many more.
With the emergence of basketball as a huge sport in the country, and the success of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), the country's premier basketball league, a lot of our youth today dreams of playing in the big league. And as what some people would always say, "If you are gonna dream, dream big"
Gone are the days when a boy would try and imitate what he sees on TV and hope that it would make him an elite player. I remember what Coach Chit Jimenez of Rabbits and STI Basketball, and also a former college basketball varsity player, once said during our summer basketball camp. He said that "You [the campers] are all very lucky today because there are a lot of training camps that are very much willing to teach basketball. When I was growing up, I had no one to depend on to teach me but myself." And that is so true. Basketball training camps have emerged from every part of the country. Wherever you go, a training camp would be there. The coaches have been unselfishly teaching kids the basic and fundamental skills to play the game.
And thus, 4B Basketball was born.
4B Basketball is not in any way different from other basketball training camps and ball clubs. A kid would come in with the interest and enthusiasm of learning the game. He may or may not know a thing or two about it. But as training days go by, he acquires the needed skills to be able to play the game.
The ball club started February 4, 2017. It was conceptualized by four coaches, Franz Bagay, Harmond Bagay, Jose Miguel Bagay, and Sonny De Belen, thus the name 4B . The regular training sessions are on Saturdays and Sundays, from 2:00-4:00 PM at Camella Provence Basketball Covered Court
4B Basketball aims to teach basketball scientifically, along with the discipline needed by a player in and out of the basketball court. It aims to give an opportunity to young ball players to learn and showcase what they have on the basketball court.
There is no required skill level to be part of the ball club. You may be a novice, or an elite player. All that is needed is the desire to be part of a system and learn from it. The players are not forced to be part of the ball club, but instead they are encouraged to be part of its growing family.
One good thing about the ball club is it gives a child a chance to learn the game, meet new acquaintances, and eventually friends, and it also gives them an opportunity to play basketball at a high level. Not many of the players are varsity players of their respective schools. Some players of the club can be considered as second stringers or bench players in their respective schools or team. Yet even so, they are given an opportunity to play in leagues that are played with a very high level of intensity and talent.
Last April and May, the ball club participated in the Smart Breakdown Basketball Invitationals, a basketball league played in Ateneo De Manila University, This invitational league also features top schools and ball clubs around the Philippines, like Ateneo, La Salle-Greenhills, JRU, Letran, Elites Basketball, etc. 4B Basketball may not have won a lot of games in the course of the tournament, but the experience that the players gained, to be able to play at a very high level, is priceless.
If you are interested in joining the ball club and participate in the skills training and the leagues that they join in, you may call or text 09228181037 (Coach Koki), and 09202615157 (Coach Momon). The ball clubs accept players from ages 5 years old and above.
